Risk Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Position is responsible for coordinating and administering the Company's property, casualty insurance program, to include claims, and loss control programs. 


REPORTS TO:            Vice President Risk Management & Contract Services      




I.  Insurance Certificates/Contract Review


  • Review contracts/bids for insurance requirements and indemnification
  • Obtain project specific insurance certificates.
  • Review contract insurance requirements with broker, as needed, and secure coverages required by contracts that fall outside of the standard insurance program
  • Offer suggested wording changes for onerous indemnification wording in contracts
  • Review subcontractor certificates of insurance for compliance with contract documents and request updated certificates if not on file
  • Work with broker to secure coverages required by contract that fall outside the standard program


II.  Insurance Program


  • Gather information and prepare submission for annual renewals
  • Participate in the insurance renewal negotiations with broker/insurance companies
  • File claims with broker/insurer where coverage applies, and manage information for claims
  • Manage auto claims
  • Distribute insurance cards to drivers of the company fleet
  • Manage review of insurance information for Sachs employees receiving vehicle allowance


III.  Workers Compensation Claims Management


  • Compile information for claims, enter into worker's compensation database and file first report of injury with insurer
  • Identify medical providers for projects
  • Approve/schedule medical treatment
  • Request restrictions for employees and communicate to Supervisor/Safety for return to work
  • File doctors notes and ongoing correspondence. for claims
  • Participate in quarterly claim review
  • Work with Safety to maintain injury log for all injuries
  • Work with CIP claim adjusters on worker's compensation claims


IV.  Surety Bonding


  • Request surety bonds from bonding company
  • Track costs of bonds and process invoices for payment


  1. Controlled Insurance Programs (CIP)
  • Review and analyze OCIP requirements for bids and if necessary, prepare OCIP insurance bid deduct forms
  • Prepare and submit CIP enrollments
  • Report monthly payrolls to CIP administrators
  • Receive, review and track CIP policies and renewals
  • Assist and track subcontractor enrollments for CIPs
  • Maintain annual CIP payroll and claim report for inclusion in EMR




Position requires a 3 to 5 years in risk management, and/or insurance and claims adjustment/processing.    Individual must be able to handle a variety of responsibilities and be organized and detail-oriented.  Ability to effectively deal with insurance company representative, medical personnel and employees essential.


A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Insurance, Business Management or Finance.
